If you've been researching prenatal chiropractic care—or if your midwife, OB-GYN, or doula has mentioned it—
the Webster Technique is likely what they had in mind.
It is one of the most researched and widely used approaches in pregnancy chiropractic care.
At Thriving Life Wellness Center in San Francisco, all three of our doctors are fully certified and specialize in this gentle method. Here is everything you need to know about how it supports a more comfortable pregnancy and birth.

Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), the Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and adjustment.
Sacral Analysis & Adjustment: A gentle assessment of your sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine), followed by a light, targeted adjustment to restore pelvic balance and symmetry.
Round Ligament Release: Gentle soft-tissue release of the round ligaments that connect the uterus to the pelvis on either side.
The Result: A pelvis that moves freely, a uterus with less torsion and constraint, and more space for your baby to move, settle, and descend naturally.
While widely known for positioning, the Webster Technique provides comprehensive relief throughout pregnancy, including:
Pelvic Pain & PGP: Relief for pelvic girdle pain and instability.
SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction): Easing pain at the front of the pelvis.
Joint & Back Pain: Alleviating Sacroiliac (SI) joint, hip, and low back pain.
Round Ligament Pain: Softening that sharp, tugging sensation deep in the lower belly.
Baby Positioning: Supporting natural turning for breech or posterior ("sunny side up") presentations to prevent difficult back labor.
Birth Preparation: Optimizing pelvic alignment ahead of labor and delivery.
You may have seen the statistic from the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) reporting an 82% success rate for babies turning from breech to head-down when using the Webster Technique.
It is vital to understand that the Webster Technique does not physically turn the baby. Instead, it removes the uterine constraint limiting the baby's movement. By balancing the round ligaments and freeing pelvic mobility, babies are given the space to turn naturally.
Recommendation: If breech presentation is a concern, we recommend starting Webster Technique care by 32 to 34 weeks. However, we welcome patients at any stage, and earlier care allows more time for the body to respond.

Webster Technique appointments at our San Francisco clinic are gentle, safe, and completely non-invasive:
✅ No Forceful Manipulation: You will lie comfortably on a specially adapted treatment table featuring a belly cut-out to eliminate pressure on your abdomen.
✅ The Assessment & Adjustment: The doctor checks sacral alignment through light touch, followed by a precise, low-force adjustment and a soothing round ligament stretch.
✅ Immediate Relief: Most patients notice changes quickly—feeling a sense of pelvic settling, reduced tension, and greater freedom of movement.
No. This is one of the most common misconceptions. The Webster Technique is a comprehensive prenatal wellness method—breech support is simply one of its many outcomes.
We utilize the Webster Technique routinely from the first trimester onward. A balanced pelvis serves as the foundation for a more comfortable pregnancy and an efficient delivery. Most of our prenatal patients receive Webster care at every visit as ongoing support, not just as a reaction to a specific issue.
Every chiropractor at Thriving Life Wellness Center is certified through the ICPA, with hundreds of successful prenatal cases across San Francisco, California:

Thriving Life Wellness Center - Review
I had Shockwave therapy on both my right and left wrists within the first 6-12 months postpartum. The repeated sessions were so helpful with very intense pain that resulted from new repetitive movements with baby and still lots of relaxin in my system. I recommend!
I have been cared for by each of the excellent chiropractors here over the years and enthusiastically endorse their entire group as extraordinary healers. Most recently, I arrived 5 days ago barely able to lift my right arm, made a same day appointment online, and now, four days later after two sessions with Dr Danielle, am back to lifting weights and playing pickleball (cautiously!), in comfort and ease. I highly recommend all of the practitioners here. No force, no X-rays, just gentle touch, and expert subtle adjustments. They are warm, professional, gentle and most importantly, Effective ! Thank you team !
I discovered Thriving Life Wellness Center while I was pregnant and have been a huge fan of Dr Danielle Geiger's gentle approach to chiropractic care ever since. Now that I am post-partum, both my daughter and I see Dr Danielle regularly. I recently tried shockwave therapy for the first time for lower back pain prior to getting on some long flights for the holidays and found it really effective, giving me about a week of relief which made the flight there much more comfortable. I couldn't recommend this practice enough!
The team at Thriving Life Wellness is outstanding. Especially, Dr. Danielle Geiger and the massage therapist, Sergio (seriously, best massage of my life). I sought care with Dr. Geiger for lower back pack during pregnancy and also to help with a breach baby. Both resolved under her care. She is both professional and personal. I felt truly cared for and would absolutely return to them in the future, if needed. She also treated me during the postpartum period and helped with our new baby! Highly recommend.
I fell 17 feet from a scaffolding, fracturing my right foot and the upper right side of my hip bone. It didn’t require surgery or any casts, but the pain was intense and the bruising was severe. Doctors said it could’ve been much worse but it was still going to take 6-8 weeks for the pain to subside and total healing would be quite a bit longer. Crutches were needed to get around, but I started shock wave treatment within the first week. The pain seemed greatly reduced after the first treatment and the bruising faded at an amazing rate in the areas where the “wand’ had been used. I had weekly shock wave treatments and after three weeks I stopped using the crutches, the bruising was completely gone and I only had pain in my foot if I walked or stood up for too long. My road to recovery from this severe injury was much faster with the Shockwave therapy than it would have been on it’s own.
I have been coming here a few months for chiropractic care and have noticed a huge difference! I am an avid runner and frequently have soreness on one side of my body - with getting my alignement fixed it has helped prevent the soreness and my running has improved overall! Highly recommend!
The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic sacral analysis and gentle adjustment designed specifically for pregnancy. Developed by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), it focuses on detecting and correcting sacral misalignment and reducing tension in the surrounding pelvic muscles and round ligaments. By restoring balance to the pelvis, it helps relieve nervous system interference and creates an optimal physical environment for both mother and baby.
Yes, it is widely recognized for supporting optimal fetal positioning. The technique does not manually turn the baby; instead, it targets the root cause of intrauterine constraint—releasing tight ligaments and aligning a restricted pelvis. Once that physical tension and torsion are removed, the baby has the natural space it needs to settle into a head-down position on its own. Clinical data published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics notes an 82% success rate, and we generally recommend starting care by 32 to 34 weeks if breech positioning is a concern.
Completely. The Webster Technique is a gentle, low-force method designed with a pregnant body's unique physiology in mind. There is never any forceful manipulation or direct pressure placed on your abdomen. Instead, you rest comfortably on a specialized pregnancy table with a belly cut-out, allowing our practitioners to deliver precise, light adjustments to the sacrum and soothing soft-tissue care to the ligaments. All three doctors at Thriving Life are fully ICPA-certified in prenatal care.
This is one of the most common misconceptions in prenatal care. While it is incredible for helping babies find space, the Webster Technique is actually a comprehensive wellness approach used throughout all trimesters. We utilize it routinely for common complaints like low back pain, pelvic girdle pain, SPD (Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction), hip discomfort, and general birth preparation. Most of our prenatal patients choose to receive it at every visit as ongoing postural and structural support.
It depends on your symptoms, how far along you are, and your goals. We give a clear recommendation at your first visit. Some patients come for a focused period of care; others receive regular Webster Technique care throughout pregnancy. No pressure to commit upfront — we start where you are.
